Lonely Planet Review

So many guesthouses crowd the narrow lanes in the northeast section of the Old City that it is hard to remember one from another. But Tri Gong Residence will stick in your mind thanks to the enthusiastic proprietor and the clean reliable rooms.

Kun Adam describes his unplanned venture into the guesthouse business as if he'd won the lottery. He was sitting in his garden one day when a traveller asked if he had a room to rent, and three years later he's happily self-employed. His gratefulness for this home-bound profession shows in the maintenance of the rooms and his concern for his guests. His English is great, he's web-savvy and he helps his guests be go-getters. The large rooms occupy a nondescript two-storey building facing a small courtyard. The interiors are earnest with a few design flourishes. The bathrooms are clean-tiled specimens of Thailand's peculiar version of a water closet: there's no curtain or wall barrier between the shower and the toilet. On the ground-floor lobby you'll find Kun Adam, his advice, and a free coffee should you need to match his energy levels.
